Corbett Tiger Reserve

  • Location: Nainital district, Uttarakhand, India.
  • National Park: Established as Hailey National Park in 1936.
  • Renaming:
    • 1954: Renamed Ramganga National Park.
    • 1956: Renamed Jim Corbett National Park.
  • Tiger Reserve: Declared a tiger reserve in 1973 under Project Tiger.
  • Project/Initiative: Pakhro Project announced in 2019 as part of the reserve.
  • Area: 1,288.31 sq.km (Core: 821.99 sq.km; Buffer: 466.32 sq.km).
  • Zones/Safari Areas: Bijrani, Jhirna, Dhikala, Durgadevi, Dhela, Sitabani.
  • Hills: Part of the Shivalik and Outer Himalaya geological provinces (Shivalik Hills/Lesser Himalayas).
  • River: Ramganga River, Sonanadi River, Mandal River, Palain River, Kosi River.
  • Valley: Patlidoon Valley, through which the Ramganga River flows.
  • Plants: Sal, Savannah Woodland, Bamboo Brakes, Chir Pine Forests, Open Meadows (Chaurs).
  • Animals: Tiger, Elephant, Barking Deer, Sambar Deer, Hog Deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Goral, Gharial, Mugger Crocodile.

Kalagarh Tiger Reserve

  • Location: Lansdowne Division, Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, India.
  • Part of: Corbett Tiger Reserve.
  • Naming: Named after the Kalagarh Dam constructed on the Ramganga River.
  • Wildlife Sanctuary: Kalagarh Wildlife Sanctuary established in 1974.
  • Project Tiger: In 1973, as part of Project Tiger, Kalagarh Wildlife Sanctuary was merged into Corbett Tiger Reserve.
  • Area: 301 sq.km (116 square miles).
  • Hills: Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas.
  • River: Ramganga River flows through the reserve, a major tributary of the Ganges.
  • Plants: Sal, Semal, Kusum, Rohini, Eucalyptus, Babul, Sissoo, Grasslands.
  • Animals: Tiger, Leopard, Elephant, Chital, Barking Deer, Goral, Sambar, Hog Deer, Gharial.

Rajaji Tiger Reserve

  • Location: Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal districts, Uttarakhand, India; Situated between the Shivalik ranges and the Indo-Gangetic plains.
  • Sanctuary/National Park: Rajaji Sanctuary established in 1948. Upgraded to Rajaji National Park in 1983.
  • Tiger Reserve: Declared as Rajaji Tiger Reserve in 2015, incorporating Chilla, Motichur, and Rajaji National Park.
  • Area: 820 sq.km (Core Zone: 819.54 sq.km; Buffer Zone: 255.63 sq.km).
  • Hills: Foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas.
  • Rivers: Ganga River, Song River, Suswa River.
  • Plants: Sal Forests, Sheesham, Amaltas, Semal, Khair, Kachnar, Banyan.
  • Animals: Tiger, Elephant, Himalayan Black Bear, Goral (Mountain Goat), Black-naped Hare, Gharial.
