Palamu Tiger Reserve is the only tiger reserve in Jharkhand.
Palamu Tiger Reserve
- Location: Latehar district, Jharkhand, India; western part of the Chotanagpur Plateau.
- Other Name: Also known as Betla Tiger Reserve.
- Historical Note: World’s first tiger census conducted in 1932 using the pugmark (footprint) method.
- Tiger Reserve: Upgraded in 1974 as Palamu Tiger Reserve; only tiger reserve in Jharkhand.
- Protected Area Complex: Forms part of Betla National Park and Palamau Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Area: 1129.93 sq km (Core/Critical: 414.08 sq km; Buffer/Peripheral: 715.85 sq km).
- Hills: Netarhat hill station lies adjacent to the reserve.
- River: North Koel River, Auranga River, Burha River.
- Plants: Sal forests, mixed deciduous forests, bamboo forests.
- Animals: Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, Leopard, Grey Wolf, Dhole, Gaur, Sloth Bear.
