Valmiki Tiger Reserve is the only tiger reserve in Bihar.
Valmiki Tiger Reserve
- Location: West Champaran district, Bihar, India.
- Wildlife Sanctuary: Established in 1978.
- National Park: Declared in 1990.
- Tiger Reserve: Upgraded during 1989–90 as Valmiki Tiger Reserve.
- Area: 899.38 sq km (Core: 598.45 sq km; Buffer: 300.93 sq km).
- Hills: Foothill ranges of the Shivalik Himalayas.
- River: Gandak, Masan, Pandai, Manor, Harha, Sonha, Pachnad, Bhapsa.
- Tribe: Tharu, Dhangar.
- Plants: Moist mixed deciduous forests, sub-mountain semi-evergreen forests, freshwater swamps, riparian fringes, alluvial grasslands, high hill savannah.
- Animals: Tiger, Leopard, Dhole, Leopard Cat, Fishing Cat, Gaur, Yellow-throated Marten, Himalayan Serow, Hill Turtle.
- Indian Bison (Gaur): Noted strong population within the reserve.
- Elephant Rescue Centre: Established by the Bihar State Government inside the reserve.
