Valmiki National Park is the only National Park in Bihar.
Valmiki National Park
- Location: West Champaran District, Bihar, India; along the India–Nepal border.
- Surroundings: Bordered by the Gandak River to the west and the Chitwan National Park in Nepal to the north.
- Naming: Named after sage Valmiki; includes Valmiki Ashram pilgrimage site.
- Wildlife Sanctuary: Declared in 1978 around Valmiki Ashram forest area.
- National Park: Notified in 1990 after upgradation from wildlife sanctuary.
- Tiger Reserve: Declared in 1989–90; 18th Tiger Reserve of India under Project Tiger.
- Area: ~898.45 sq.km (346.89 sq miles).
- Hills: Shivalik Himalayan foothills.
- River: Gandak, Masan, Pandai, Manor, Harha, Sonha, Pachnad, Bhapsa.
- Tribe: Tharu, Dhangar.
- Plants: Sal, bamboo, semal, teak, sissoo, khair.
- Animals: Bengal tiger, Indian rhinoceros, Asiatic black bear, wild buffalo, sambar, striped hyena, gharial.
- Special Notes: Only national park and tiger reserve in Bihar; elephant rescue centre established by Bihar government.
